昂立外語【新概念培訓】分享block，block這個名字在新概念的學習中一定不陌生，可是這個詞還有著你完全想不到的意思，你知道嗎？
今天分享block這個單詞,在新概念第二冊L29課中，block出現在“Once he landed on the roof of a block of flats and on another occasion, he landed in a deserted car park.”還記得當講到這個詞匯時，韓老師在黑板上畫的圖么？
一個類似魔方的“塊狀”體，和一個練習指路用的俯視街區圖。沒錯block的原意就是“塊狀物”。
block作為名詞：
在Webster字典中的解釋為：a solid piece of material (such as rock or wood) that is usually square or rectangular in shape.
那么block可以表示什么樣的“塊狀物”呢？本文中a block of flats，譯為“一幢公寓”大家不難想象，一幢房子就可以看成“一大塊”的物體哦。
1. 在英國block指高大的房子，即“大廈”或“大樓”；
2. 在美國block指四面鄰街的一塊地或建筑群，稱為一個街區(4條街道當中的區域)，也可指這樣一個block的每一邊，即兩條平行街道之間的一段路。
繼續發揮想象力，block作為名詞還可以表示：
“積木”building blocks，wooden blocks（一塊一塊的大家一定很熟悉吧）
“冰塊” blocks of ice
“思維阻塞” mental blocks，如果記憶、思維中出現“塊狀物”塞住了，一定會“頭腦空白”：
I cannot do math. I've got a mental block about it.
我做不了數學。我一做就大腦一片空白。
“防曬霜”
It says here that all tourists should bring swimsuits and sun block.
這里說旅客應自備泳衣和防曬用品（防曬霜）。
那么block 用作動詞，意思自然是“塊狀物”的作用所在“堵住”…”阻塞”…
在新概念第二冊L47課中“The next morning, he found that the door had been blocked by chairs and furniture had been moved”.
他發現房門被椅子堵住了，家具也被移動過了。
1.“鼻塞”可以形象地說成：
My nose is all blocked up and I can't breathe.
我鼻塞，喘不過來氣。
2. “阻塞”道路：
A heavy snowfall block the main road. 
一次嚴重的降雪阻塞了主要公路。
I started to move around him, but he blocked my way.
我開始繞開他走，但他擋著我的路。
Main Street has been blocked off for the parade.
主要干道被游行隊伍堵住了。
The police blocked off the crime scene with yellow tape.
警察用黃色帶子“封鎖”了犯罪現場。
3. 水管“堵了”：
The sink pipe is blocked up.
4.血栓：
Blood clots have completely blocked one of his arteries.
大家想想看，block作為“塊狀物”充分發揮了“阻塞”的功能，在很多語境中都能夠用到。其實英語單詞意思都是相同的，同學們可以發揮想象力將它們聯系在一起，在更多的語境中體會學習語言的樂趣。^_^
